"There are so many horrible things going on in the World - war, famine, human rights abuses - that one can become very jaded and push back because the images and news all becomes so overwhelming. That is why I think the monthly giving is so great because it just becomes a part of one's monthly expenses and when another tragedy occurs you can give something without it impacting your monthly giving.
The TV, internet, etc. is filled with news about pop and celebrity culture or else war, corruption, human rights abuses. It is very easy for people to become disillusioned with the World and the people in it. This is why I think it is so important to have friends that do what you do - helping to make the World a better place. More and more, I surround myself with people that volunteer and give back to society and I find it is also good for one's mental health. I don't feel angry or disillusioned the way I see so many people, because I am constantly aware that there are so many good people out there doing wonderful things."
