Sala Caravan from Madrid organised a charity concert last February 4th to raise funds for 'Project Mombasa 2012'. This project will be organized by the Cultural and Social Association through Fundación del Valle.
The charity meeting featured performances by two groups, The Funkrockest and Platos Rotos. PIlar Peña, one of the project's volunteers, presented to the group some data on the Kilifi district, Mombasa, one of the poorest and most illiterate areas of Kenya, and the place to which 15 volunteers will travel in August to carry out various social actions. "We wanted to organize a recreational activity where we could gather our friends and therefore be able to share our project with them and the hopes we have for it", said María Castrillo one of the event organizers.
As Pilar Peña explained, the activities that will be conducted there are divided into three areas: training, which includes developing an educational program that tries to improve knowledge of the English language, also to encourage the acquisition of necessary values for social harmony; health, which involves welfare efforts in a clinic in the area with the aim of boys, girls and teenagers getting a check-up and medical history; and the third area is for reconstruction efforts.
In addition to this Charity Concert, the volunteers have thought up more activities to raise funds with the aim of being able to bring Mombasa enough equipment so as to be able carry out the action.
